Famed Canadian Author of Anne of Green GablesLucy Maud Montgomery was born on November 30, 1874 in Clifton (now New London), Prince Edward Island. Lucy Maud Montgomery's first novel, Anne of Green Gables, was published in 1908 and was an instant success. Montgomery married the Rev. Ewan Macdonald in 1911 and moved to Leaskdale, Ontario. The Macdonald's moved to Norval in February 1926 when Ewan accepted the two charges of Norval Presbyterian Church and Union Presbyterian Church near Glen Williams. Montgomery loved the natural setting of Norval and enjoyed entertaining at her home, the manse, 402 Draper Street. Montgomery and her husband Ewan retired to Toronto in April 1935. Montgomery died April 24, 1942 and was buried in the Cavendish Cemetery, Prince Edward Island.
